VLF4EU Project Presented at the University of the Basque Country: Bridging Digital Innovation and Hands-On Training

On May 21, 2025, the VLF4EU project was presented to three leading research groups at the Department of Electricity and Electronics of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU):

  • Instrumentación y Control Experimental (ICE)
  • Electrónica Digital
  • Grupo de Trabajo en Tecnologías Software (GTTS)

The session, led by Eider Aranzabal from Elesar Innovation, introduced the Virtual Learning Factories for EU (VLF4EU) project, which aims to bring advanced digital twin technology and remote training environments into technical and vocational education.

A key message of the presentation was how VLFs can transform traditional teaching scenarios by allowing students to access remote, interactive, and practical simulations, significantly shortening the preparation time for lab work. As Professor Juan Mari Collantes highlighted during the discussion, the adoption of this technology could help students arrive at the lab ready to perform practical tasks in just one day, instead of spending a full week familiarising themselves with equipment and procedures.

The presentation also explored the technical frameworks behind VLF4EU, focusing on communication protocols, benefits of remote access systems, and the challenges in teacher and student adoption of new technologies.

The dialogue with the research groups was highly insightful and opened avenues for potential collaborative development and testing of VLF solutions within academic environments.
